Tucson Mountain Park

Gilbert Ray Campground in the Tucson Mountain Park was our next destination. A lovely park set among desert plants including cholla and saguaro and other cactus. You are only a short distance from the town of Tucson but you feel like you are out in the middle of nowhere.

We went into Tucson to do some shopping at Walmart and Trader Joe's. We came into the campground via Ajo to Kinney which was the recommended way for RVs. When we went into town we went on Gates Pass Rd, which is windy and has some sharp turns but is very scenic. There are some very nice houses on this road as you get closer to the main Tucson area.

On our way to the stores we went through some of the University of Arizona area. Joe went there for awhile and lived in one of the dorms. He had returned there a number of years later and found it already changed. He said it seems even more changed this time. Over the next few days we want to go to Saguaro National Park and the Desert Museum which we have heard is something not to miss and so should have a few interesting days exploring the area.
