Strawberry Flats Forever

Muncho Lake is said by some to be one of the most beautiful lakes around and I whole hardily The jade green color of the lake is attributed to the presence of copper oxide leached from the bedrock underneath.  What a great place to spend a few days. The small 15 site campground is one of two in this provincial park with most sites right on the water. We were lucky to get one of the last of those.

We had planned to stay 2 nights but got some news from the campground hosts that changed our minds for us. The highway north of us was being repaired and was not expected to open for a day or two. They have had two weeks of rain and a beaver fed lake overflowed and broke and the rain went rushing into two other lakes and broke them and the water flooded the highway with considerable damage. We found out later that the roads were backed up for miles with commercial trucks and travelers not able to get through. They even were running out of food in Whitehorse as they get their food from Edmonton and those trucks were stuck as well. We have no internet, tv or cell service here and so are relying on the campground hosts for updates. Well, if we had to be stuck somewhere, we couldn't have picked a better spot.

Lot of people here fishing. They are very stringent about following the law regarding fishing. On Saturday the game warden wrote tickets for violations for a couple of hours and confiscated quite a bit of fishing equipment. Be sure to buy those fishing licenses.
We ate lunch at Northern Rockies Lodge, which has a hugh 45 foot high fireplace in a vaulted ceiling in the dining room.

They have a flying service from here and the board in the above picture has lights in it at night to mark the places the planes have traveled.

We got word that the roads are open and are leaving here on Wednesday after giving it a day for the roads to clear of all the trucks and rvs and cars that have been stranded. We had mostly cloudy and rain filled days but got a little sunshine to sit out by the lake and even when inside the motor home had beautiful views.
One part of not having any internet, etc is that we didn't know if the Kings had won the Stanley Cup. We last watched the fourth game and knew they were going into the fifth game ahead 3 to 1. We finally talked to someone who told us that they did win. Congrats Kings!!!!!!
