Drake Park and Downtown Bend

Saturday morning brought some sunshine and reports of 70 degree weather and so we thought we would go take a walk at Drake Park. This is Bend's most popular park and they have a lot of them for a small town.
The Deschutes River goes through the park, which is the section called Mirror Pond. There are majestic ponderosa pines and hardwood trees and is beautifully landscaped. I would love to own one of the houses in this area especially those that are right on the river.

We continued our walk into historic Downtown Bend. They are lots of people walking around, checking out the different shops and restaurants on its streets, one of which faces the Park.  We were thinking of kayaking this area on Sunday. We could kayak from the Park. We decided to look at River Bend Park and a couple of other areas for put ins.

We woke to sunshine on Sunday but it soon disappeared and did not come back the rest of the day and by late afternoon we had rain. So we didn't end up doing any boating.  We love this area and will be back.  We have been here before for a longer period, including taking a drive up to Mount Bachelor and the many lakes on the Cascade Lakes Byway. There is a lot to do, summer and winter. Monday morning we will continue north to one of the state parks on the Columbia Gorge .
